Dance related auditions are often held in various places and during certain times of the year. Many Summer intensive auditions takes place in the late Winter/early Spring, while Nutcracker auditions often happen in late Summer. Although some companies take their auditions on the road, that doesn't always mean that auditions will be held in a city near you. Because of this, many dance organizations allow video audition submissions. The dancer  must submit a video with the requested criteria in order to be considered for placement.

 

Video audition can be very beneficial to dancers because they are in control of what they are allowing the judges to see. For instance, if a dancer forgets a combination or falls out of a turn, they can simply delete that footage and try again. It's a fantastic way for a dancer to submit what he/she feels is the best of their ability and presentation.

 

Although the nervousness of being in a crowded room being judged in real time is taken away by submitting a video audition, the process can still be nerve-racking. Recording and editing a video can be frustrating. Dancers often find themselves under pressure to submit a perfect video with no mistakes because they think that is what judges are looking for. This couldn't be further from the truth.
