Beginning Contemporary Technique

Beginning Contemporary Technique is a beginner-friendly class designed to introduce dancers to the technical foundations of contemporary dance without the pressure of learning choreography.

Class begins with a guided warm-up and progresses through exercises focused on alignment, balance, control, weight shifts, breath, and body awareness. Dancers will explore foundational floorwork, transitions to and from the floor, and across-the-floor progressions while learning how contemporary movement uses gravity, momentum, and groundedness.

The focus is on how movement works: breaking skills down, understanding proper execution, and giving dancers time to practice and develop confidence before putting those skills into more complex choreography.

Ideal for dancers who are brand new to contemporary, returning to dance after time away, or simply want more time to strengthen their contemporary technique.
